The official start of our "Strengthening local societal security and preparedness" course.

Next week, the first part of our "Strengthening local societal security and preparedness" course will officially start. From the 9th to the 13th of November. Participants will officially start their enrollment in this course that focuses on human and societal security and, most importantly, preparedness.

This course will deepen your understanding of human and societal security and strengthen your ability to address complex preparedness challenges before, during and after conflict. These challenges often involve uncertainty, multiple causes and no straightforward solutions. You will explore how interdisciplinary knowledge, cooperation and an understanding of local conditions can help police, local government and civil society respond collectively.

Drawing on research and the lived experiences of police and communities, particularly in Ukraine, you will consider how lessons from conflict and post-conflict settings can inform preparedness in Norway. Through discussion, reflection and collaborative problem-solving, you will learn to critically assess evidence, theories and relevant regulations, identify local risks and vulnerabilities, and recognise community strengths, networks and resources. The course also develops your ability to communicate across sectors, navigate ethical challenges and contribute to shared learning.

A practical field exercise and group project will provide opportunities to apply these insights and tools. By the end of the course, you will be better equipped to develop context-sensitive, ethical and sustainable approaches to preparedness and formulate concrete recommendations for policy and practice in your own work.
